This beautiful river is a connecting channel between Lake Huron and Lake St. Clair for a distance of 64 km(40 miles). It divides at the southern end into several channels known as the St.Clair delta or the St. Clair Flats.  

The St.Clair River is:    

  • 250-1200m( 840-3940 ft)wide
  • 9m (30 ft) deep

It has a current that travels about 6 km (4 miles) per hour.

About 90,000 people live along the Canadian side of the River and about 80,000 on the American side.

As part of the St. Lawrence Seaway, the St. Clair River is a major shipping route. The lake freighters as well as the ocean going ships carry cargoes such as coal, iron ore, limestone, grain, salt, petroleum products and finished steel.
